Playstation 2

December 5th, 2006 at 03:17 pm

My kids really want a PS2 for Christmas. They don't have any type of gaming system, and our oldest is almost 13. They play at their friends' houses and Dh and I have always thought this was a good plan...we don't believe in lots of screen time...but, as they get older, and the sleepovers become bigger and happen more often, we're thinking that a gaming system in the family room would be okay.

With all the new systems available right before Christmas, one would assume that PS2 would be easy to find. Everywhere I go seems to be sold out! Oh, well, 20 shopping days left. I really need to get a list going and get moving! I feel waaaay behind this year.

Did you try the resale shops like EB games, gamestop or game exchange? Try some stores online too!

Believe it or not, but PS2s are still selling strong... about as much as the Xbox 360 and definitely more than the PS3.

I wouldn't give up just yet though. I'd keep checking around. By now, it should be quite possible to snag one. I also agree to check EB games and Gamestop, and see if you can't score a decent used one.

    Good luck. Smile

We didn't get a game system for a long while, also. Eventually, the kids were getting out of the loop and not very skilled at the games because they didn't get to play much. So we put a game system in the family room like you suggested and put a time limit on playing. This was before computer games!

    Thanks for the shopping tips!

Jan, we have a one hour 'screen time' limit per child at our house during the week. Screen time includes t.v., game boy, and computer...playstation will be added in. Well, at first we'll let them play as much as they want. We're hoping for a bleary eyed Christmas!

Rather than spend between $20-$40 per game, get the kids a blockbuster gift certificate (or something similar). They rent games there, so the kids can try them out, and only buy the ones they really want.

EB Games is a good bet, too, if you have one around...
